Locate Underground Utilities / Soft Dig / Pot Holing

Vacuum excavation is fast becoming a best practice in the field of construction and site excavation. Why? Because it uses jets of air (air excavation) or water (hydro excavation) to loosen soil, instead of a heavy metal claw. After loosening, the soil is pulled out of the ground through an air vacuum hose to a debris tank for later disposal or back-filling. Using non-destructive technology can quickly, safely and economically excavate in areas inaccessible to conventional digging equipment like backhoes and trenchers.

Hydro excavation is the process of using pressurized water and a vacuum source to loosen and remove soil. Using the Vac-Tron - Wet/Dry Industrial Vacuum Excavation System, operators can dig with precision, establishing a less invasive method for slot trenching, potholing and pipe location. Using a hydro excavator with water as your tool gives you several key advantages.

  • Water is more efficient when working in tough soils.
  • Water helps controls static electricity
  • Water prevents the sandblasting affect of high-speed air.
  • Water acts as its own lubricant
  • Water can be heated for frozen ground excavation
  • Less likely than sharp-edged tools to damage underground structures.
  • Potholing using vacuum excavation, has made it safer to locate underground utilities.

This manner of excavation causes less surface damage, reduces disruptions of traffic and other surface activities and can be easier and less expensive to repair.

With the Vac-Tron’s LP Series - Wet/Dry Industrial Vacuum Excavation System, you can physically locate underground lines more safely and effectively using vacuum. But the value of vacuum excavation extends beyond visibly identifying buried utilities. Vac-Tron’s vacuum excavation equipment also eliminates frac-outs, pulls dart or mouse through conduit to install utility lines, installs short horizontal bores and soft-digs trench in high-volume underground utility areas.

Oil Spill Clean-up Applications

Working Overtime to Support the Gulf Cleanup

The unprecedented oil spill disaster in the Gulf is something that strikes at the heart of all Vac-Tron employees, most of us whom call Florida our lifelong home.

We have increased production of specially-outfitted oil spill cleanup equipment to be deployed immediately for the extensive effort in the Gulf and beyond. The industrial vacuum is a safe, simple and cost-effective method of cleaning oil from the surface of the water as well as tar balls that wash ashore. Using a skimmer held above the surface, the Vac-Tron Industrial Vacuum equipment rapidly collects oil into a tank which can then be transported to a processing facility. Our equipment is manufactured for mobile use and can easily be parked on barges at sea or used on contaminated beaches to handle cleanup.

Vac-Tron has developed several new models for this specific type of beach cleanup including the "Beach Vac" which is mounted on a truck or trailer and collects tar balls and other contaminants that wash up on the beach.

Vac‐Tron Equipment can be used for various clean‐ups involving animal waste and bedding. Large animal environments are cleaned‐up in zoos; animal waste drainage pits, pumping contaminated water out of holding tanks and transferring into disposal tanks, draining and cleaning animal housing ponds, horse stalls for daily maintenance to suck-up urine and solid waste; complete cleaning of bedding area of straw or wood shavings; removes urine that is not good for the horses to smell (like acid or methane gas). Dairy farms implement the same process thereby yielding a cleaner more sanitized living condition for their cows. By utilizing the high pressure water wand to clean ponds, stalls, cages, concrete, landscaping, etc., and removing all animal waste to ensure the health of all animals.

Car Wash Pit Clean Out

The Vac‐Tron trailer mounted vacuum system is the perfect tool for cleaning out car wash pits. By utilizing the vacuum portion of the system you can remove the oil, grease, chemical slick and garbage debris from the washout pits. Once all the debris is removed, you can utilize the high pressure water wand that offers 4 GPM at 4,000 psi to clean out the structure (i.e., walls, floor of the pits, grate overhead) leaving it clean and free of any build‐up. The Mini‐Combo Model is equipped with a jetter system which offers 15 GPM at 2200 psi. Use of this efficient tool will enable you to clean out the 4” lines that connect the washout pits so as to ensure proper drainage of contaminated water to the holding tank, if applicable.

Diamond Saw Slurry

Concrete Cutting  Contractors use our LP555SDT for saw slurry clean‐up.  Concrete cutting using a Diamond Saw is the process of cutting expansion joints on freshly paved concrete roads.  After cutting,  water is used to eliminate dust thereby creating a slurry.  This slurry has to be cleaned up due to EPA Regulations and the Vac-Tron vacuum excavator is the preferred clean-up method.  Using water to create the slurry and then using the LP Series - Wet/Dry Industrial Vacuum Excavation System to eliminate any residue.  Contractors perform this application frequently for airport runways and highway repair, as well as new construction.

This process takes place nationwide with current projects in Idaho, Utah and Phoenix.

Fertilizer Plants

Fertilizer Plant Clean‐up and General Maintenance.   Vac‐Tron vacuum excavation models are currently being used at various fertilizer plants for general clean‐up and removal of muriatic acid waste.  It is highly recommended that the inside of the debris tank and filter housing be protected with a coating that will resist the corrosive effects of the acid.  Proper clean up is a must.

Grain Elevators

Vac-Tron - Wet/Dry Industrial Vacuum Excavation System models are used widely in the Grain Industry.  Grain Elevators and/or Silo’s are the main focus.  The Maintenance Department  deals with "Housekeeping".  The Vac-Tron - Wet/Dry Industrial Vacuum Excavation System can be used to clean the bottom of the elevator or to clean up spills. They can also be used to free up a stuck elevator without losing product.

Micro-Tunneling / Foundation Stabilization

Vac‐Tron vacuum excavation equipment can be used for the application of Micro‐Tunneling and/or Foundation Stabilization.  Microtunneling is used to construct small tunnels. This process enables access to plumbing, electrical wiring, termite repair, flooding, crawl space and historical restoration without compromising the integrity of the foundation.  By using the “soft‐dig” technique under the foundation or slab, there is no risk of damaging any previous utilities or structural damage to the building. The debris removed will only have to be handled one time. This process would be best served with the Vac‐Tron AIR855 model to accommodate the volume of debris, as well as having the flexibility of back‐filling with the dirt that was removed after the process has been completed.

Resetting of Headstones in Cemetery

Using a Vac-Tron vacuum excavator to soft-dig the hole for the Placement of Headstones. They are usually 3’ long x 2’wide and 3’ deep. You can drive through the grave yard on the roads and run your hose out and dig your foundation hole using vacuum. When you’re done all the dirt is collected in the debris tank. No one will ever know you were there. This is a very clean and respectful way to place Head Stones.
